Dear Finley Parents, Staff and Families:

Finley School District values your health and well-being, and we want to assure that our community is provided with the information and resources needed to stay healthy and informed. As you are aware, there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and deaths in Washington State. We want you to know that our district is working with the Benton-Franklin Health District as well as state and national health agencies on prevention and district management in the event of an outbreak in our community. Our district will continue to follow the direction and guidance of health care expert authorities.
The purpose of this update is to:
  1. provide you with recommended practices for preventing the spread of the virus;
  2. outline the preventative measures our district is taking, and;
  3. assure you have access to accurate and up to date information.

The following RECOMMENDED PRACTICES are extremely important for all students and adults:

  • Do not bring your student to school if they do not feel well or have cold or flu-like symptoms (elevated temperature, fever, cough, shortness of breath). Keep your student home and call your health care provider with any additional questions you may have.
  • Do not come to work at the school if you do not feel well or have cold or flu-like symptoms (elevated temperature, fever, cough, shortness of breath). Stay home.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water. If you do not have soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Sneeze and cough into a tissue, elbow or sleeve instead of your hands. Throw used tissues in a garbage container immediately after use. If you use your hands to cover a sneeze or cough, wash your hands immediately with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes, touching your nose or putting your fingers by or in your mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • Look for answers to many common questions on the Washington State Department of Health (DOH)
    website at www.doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/Coronavirus:
    • Example Question: “Should I wear a mask when I go out in public?”
      ANSWER: “We are not recommending that people wear masks when they are in public…”
      - WA Dept. of Health

In addition to recommended practices outlined above, our district is taking the following PREVENTATIVE ACTIONS:

  1. On a daily basis, staff are redoubling their efforts to wipe down desks, door handles, and other frequent areas of touch.
  2. Bus drivers are wiping down all seats on school buses daily.
  3. Additional staff training and communication will be implemented as needed.
Finley School District will make decisions on a case-by-case basis regarding any school gatherings or functions where large groups of people are asked to convene. We will communicate any cancellations accordingly. At this time all events are on schedule as planned.

Should the virus be suspected at any one of our schools or in our community, we will coordinate our response under the direction of the Benton Franklin Health District and communicate to you as soon as possible. Additionally, our district will coordinate with and follow the direction of the State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) regarding attendance, nutrition services, and other operational considerations. You can find directions provided by the State online at www.k12.wa.us/about-ospi/press-releases/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-resources.

Lastly, we want to make sure you have access to ACCURATE AND CURRENT INFORMATION:
