Finley School District works to ensure that each homeless child or youth has equal access to the same free appropriate public education as other children and youth in the district.

When is a child or youth considered homeless?

A child or youth is considered homeless when he/she lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. This includes: Shared housing or doubled-up, motels, hotels, campgrounds, or other locations due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations, emergency or transitional shelter.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act

The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Act is to remove barriers to education for homeless/transitional students and provide educational support and stability.

Child Find Program

Finley School District operates a Child Find program to identify, locate and evaluate all children from infancy to age 21 residing in our district boundaries who need special education and related services.  If you would like more information or if you know of any families with children that may be eligible for services, we encourage you to contact the building principal or the Special Services Manager at 509-586-3217.  If your family is living in a temporary situation, you may contact the district where you are currently staying for more information.
