3/26/20 Academic Packets Update

Friday Learning Packets
Posted on 03/26/2020
Following the announcement by Washington Governor Inslee to close all K-12 schools across the state effective March 17, the direction by OSPI for schools was to utilize the following week to plan and prepare for an extended closure. Planning and preparing is exactly what Finley staff have been doing, and we couldn't be more proud of our awesome team and resilient community!

School staff jumped in right away to assure vital food services could continue for our community's kids. On March 23rd, Finley's transportation and food service departments teamed up to deliver free meals at all school bus stops. Monday through Friday, these free meals (one breakfast and one lunch per child) will continue to be delivered for the duration of the school closure. The State has approved for schools to continue offering these meals as an essential service to our communities. (Learn more about these meals.)

Boxes of learning packets assembled for studentsFinley educators and administrators also spent this time preparing educational resource packets so that student learning can continue throughout the closure. Julia Mendoza, Dulleya Woods and Pam Kinne spent 22 hours organizing over 750 elementary packets by bus route to begin delivery!

Beginning Friday, March 27th, academic packets for ALL GRADE LEVELS will be delivered each morning at the school bus stops, along with the free meals. We will continue delivering academic packets each Friday until schools are reopened.

Packets will be available each Friday for students in all grade levels. The March 27th packets for elementary students will include packets for PE and K-2 Art, as well as a packet of work if they were absent on 3/16. Some students will be receiving additional packets on April 3rd and 17th.

We want to thank our amazing teachers for putting the packets together, the food service staff for assembling meals, and our bus drivers and many other staff for organizing and delivering everything!
